About the program:
In this course, much attention is paid to the early, primitive anxieties and conflicts that give rise to eating disorders.
The focus of attention will also be on psychological defenses that allow such patients to avoid thinking and emotional contact through eating.
One of the topics of the course is the hatred of such patients for healthy addiction and affection.
We will explore the nature of the “inner landscape” of our patients, the difficulties of passing the Oedipus complex, as well as the communication attack that is common among such patients.
We will also turn to the difficulties that await us on the thorny path of therapeutic work.
Presentations and discussion of real therapy sessions will complement the training program and expand our understanding of how we can be useful to our patients with eating disorders and similar pathologies.
Theoretical and clinical material will be presented in the framework of the theory of object relations, especially in terms of how Melanie Klein, Esther Beek, Wilfred Bion and her followers understood it. Additional time will be allocated for questions and discussion.
Deborah Blessing’s video message to participants describing the program’s content.
§ In the daily psychotherapeutic practice, we are expected to deal with the most diverse forms of mental pain that our patients bring in the hope of relief. However, those who come with eating disorders problems confront us with additional difficulties. Attempts to find and give meaning become a difficult task. The psychotherapist is forced to maneuver between the patient's constant “acting out” and his or her ability to think.
§ When we interpret the symptoms as a means to avoid experiencing feelings and thinking, our therapeutic skills and attempts to establish emotional contact with the patient are attacked and rejected. We feel useless and unnecessary. Perhaps this is how our patients want to convey to us how they feel on their way to life. They do not know how to convey their condition otherwise. Their splitting between the body and the psyche is very deep.
See you at the seminars training program for RPP.
